ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Laurie Kanyer, MA
Laurie Kanyer, MA, is an author, publisher, counselor, artist, and organizational consultant. She has worked with individuals, families, and organizations since 1983.
Kanyer holds a master’s degree in human development focusing on infant mental health, childhood grief and loss, and organizational development from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Kanyer received her bachelor’s degree in family studies from Central Washington University in 1981. She has used collage-making as an educational and therapeutic tool with her clients and students for decades.
Kanyer’s studies, writings, teachings, and books have their roots in her own curiosity and deep passion to understand herself, others, and the world. She is a lifelong seeker, aiming to ask more questions than to have answers. She sees her calling as one of connecting people with ideas to support their needs in the present, with the aim of investing in their future self. Her work has been centered on the idea of supporting people to discover skills, tools, and information, incentivizing them to “Think, Choose, and Use” what fits best for themselves.
Kanyer is the creator and founder of Collage Care: The Method™ (CCTM). She developed Collage Care: The Method™ by miraculous accident while filling an immediate vocational need. Upon taking on a new professional teaching assignment in the field of child psychology she learned there was no set curricula, texts, or materials established upon which to teach the course. Collage Care: The Method™ (CCTM) was thus born.
Collage Care: The Method™ (CCTM) ultimately became a deeply sophisticated and yet easy to use model which employs collage-making and other ancient tools to help, heal, and transform lives. It provides a way for people to consider topics beyond what simple talking, reading, listening, seeing, or writing can offer.
Kanyer, along with her husband Doug, are the founders of Kanyer Publishing LLC and The Kanyer Art Collection and Historical Archive of Collage. To date they have published many books focusing on collage as a healing tool and as fine art. The Kanyers have been art collectors since 1978. In 2016, they dedicated their collecting efforts exclusively to the magnification and amplification of collage. They are one of very few private art collectors in the world focusing solely on collage (see www.KanyerArtCollection.com).
The Kanyers met in college in 1977 and have been married since 1981. They have three grown children, two sons-in-law, and two grandchildren. Having lived a majority of their lives in the high desert region of Central Washington state, USA they recently moved to Tucson, Arizona to be closer to family.
